chart of that year. In 1988, top solo artist, Kylie
Minogue did her own cover version of 'The Loco-motion'
renamed simply 'Locomotion'. This was Minogue's
debut single which scored a top position in the UK singles
chart of that year.
- 'Dancing In The Street' - this was originally released
by the artist, Martha Reeves and The Vandellas.
Composed eventually of the members: Martha Reeves, Annette
Sterling Beard and Rosalind Ashford (one of the original
members: Gloria Williams had left early on) they released
'Dancing In The Street' in 1962. Written by Marvin
Gaye, William Stevenson and Ivy Jo Hunter, the huge motown
upbeat release that was 'Dancing In The Street' was
optimised by production experts: Eddie Holland, Lamont
Dozier and Brian Holland (calling themselves
'Holland/Dozier/Holland'). Martha Reeves and The
Vandellas reached a top No.2 US singles chart position
back in 1962 with the party single. It was in 1969
that 'Dancing In The Street' gave Martha Reeves and The
Vandellas their UK chart success. Other music
artists to cover 'Dancing In The Street' include: top US
singer/songwriter, Neil Diamond on his 'September Morn'
album in 1979, huge British music artists: Mick Jagger and
David Bowie for the massive charity gig, 'Live Aid' in
1985.
